I know it s been quite a few weeks but we finally made our garden more than just talk. Over spring break Kylee and I were outside working on the new beds while the weather was warm(and inside working on new spring decor).
I'm surprised how well the wooden retaining walls held up better than I expected and we found plenty of cinder blocks around the apartment building to fill in gaps and steps. We would not have finish the whole project before school started if Kevin and Melanie, our neighbors, hadn't helped us. So now we have three times the space we had last year and it only cost $20.
so far we have planted lettuce, radishes, peas, and onions. more planting to follow, pending on the weather. I've planned out a layout for the entire garden square foot by square foot, but we will see just how closely that is followed. Gardening is a science, but it is also an art.

'Tis the season

Getting ready for spring in the middle of winter is like counting down christmas in the middle of October. I know it's coming but it's taking it's own sweet tome to get here. Working at a garden store isn't helping me either. As soon as customers start showing up to get the seeds for this years garden my brain starts scheming about how all the things I want to plant this year.
I don't know if I can wait for the ground to thaw before I start breaking ground in our little growing patch. The dirt seems to be calling my name and begging me to get my hands and knees all muddy.
Just to see who all reads this post, I want some suggestions on what to plant this year. If you read this post you MUST write a comment and give atleast one suggestion. two or three would be great too. Ill keep a detailed acount of all i plant and you can see how your suggestions turn out!

A Ketchup Post
It has been many moons since the last time i wrote to the world of followers out there just what was on my mind. So this post will help me 'ketchup' with all we've missed in the last while.
Kylee and I had a great trip to Price, Utah to visit her Grandparents and sew some things. Now in all honesty I heard we we're going to Price and thought I was in for long naps and staring at sewing patterns. Luckily there is something absolutely amazing just one block away from Grandma and Grandpa's house, The Dinosaur Museum!
Is there anything more "Aw" inspiring than seeing bones that belonged to animals that roamed the earth over 65 million years ago? to top it all off they even have and little crocodile pool with big gold fish inside it swimming around. So ya, that was pretty cool. Kylee and I also descovered something pretty amazing about the newer models of Ford's car "Taurus." They have an anti-Mob latch in the trunk. It comes with a diagram to show just how to skip as you exit the trunk.
On the way home we went to my friend Amanda's wedding reception. She and I have been friends since we'd kick each other under the table in primary. It made me and Kylee so happy to see her and Chae look so happy together.
Meanwhile back at Home base in logan our plants have been growning very impressively. but that could be from the lack of sun they recieve each day. Everything is about 2 1/2 feet tall and still skinny as sprouts. Gratefully our peas have begun to blossum and we even have some pods that are an inch long already. Okay, so i'm bragging just a bit but with the weather we've had this year the fact that anything has come out of the ground is a miracle.
thanks for 'ketchup'ing with me, i hope you 'Relish'ed it.

Feeding two with 32 square feet
Since getting my new job at Anderson's Seed and Garden I have been so excited to start a garden. Living in an apartment usually means no planting space and no home grown produce. Luckily Kylee and I have a fun little strip of dirt in front of our door. With a plot that's four feet by 8 feet we may not get a smorgasbord of vegetables this summer but I'm still going to see how much greenery we can get out of it.
Yesterday i spent a few moments replacing logs and dirt into a nice looking arrangement for our garden. I even got to use our fun little shovel and cultivators to turn over the dirt. cute in'it?
(the little plants there are some Habanero seeds i pulled out of some peppers i got from Grandpa Wood)
Today it rained, quiet a bit. so there was no point trying to play in the mud. Instead I went to work (as a customer) and got the smallest amount of all the seeds we wanted to try this year. The coolest things that we are trying are a mix of multi-colored carrots and corn engineered here in our very own USU. Next time it's dry outside I'll be putting out some fertilizer and sowing the selection of seeds. Woohoo!
